My Top 5 Winter Patterns from Dizzy Quilts

I went through my cool weather patterns recently and thought it would be fun to make a list of my favourite ones and share it with you!

When making the list, I had these criteria:

  • The pattern needed to be appropriate for a beginner
  • I had made a garment from it multiple times
  • I wore the garments often
All right - this is going to be a fairly long read so let's get started with the first pattern!

The Blackwood Cardigan by Helen's Closet

I made 4 cardigans from this pattern - one short and three long. This is probably ...

The Sunday Romper by Love Notions from Dizzy Quilts

My little brother turned 50 yesterday and over the weekend, his wife organized a small family backyard party. I really wanted a casual dress for the event and decided to make myself the Sunday Romper by Love Notions.

The fabric is a pencil navy stripe from The Fabric Snob. It's doing all kinds of weird things to the pictures and to my computer screen, but it's an amazing fabric! It's really, really comfortable and it sews up beautifully.

Pattern Details:

The Sunday Romper pattern contains pants, shorts and cropped pants bottoms as well as a skirt view ...

The Metra Blazer from Dizzy Quilts

I very much consider myself a beginner when it comes to making garments and I honestly didn't think I could pull off making a semi-fitted blazer. But when Love Notions published the Metra Blazer and I started seeing all the reviews and tester versions, I thought to myself maybe I could make myself one.

Love Notions patterns are extremely well written, and there's always a lot of support both in the Facebook group and from their brand ambassadors and affiliates. An added bonus was that the blazer is made in a stable knit so a little more forgiving ...

A Very Snuggly Whistler Top from Dizzy Quilts

I finished a crazy snuggly sweater for myself this week and although it is far from perfect... I love it!

This is the Whistler Pull-over and Hoodie by Love Notions. When I first saw the pattern (which I think might have been on sale recently), I skipped over it. I didn't think the style would look nice on me and I have to say I really didn't need another winter sweater.

But I had this amazingly soft THICC Stretch Fleece from The Fabric Snob in my stash that I really wanted to make something out of before the ...

La Bella Donna Tunic in Red! from Dizzy Quilts

I think I may have developed an addiction to the La Bella Donna pattern - this red tunic is my third make from this pattern. I made the short sleeved top last Summer (which I'm realizing now I never blogged about), I made a black version of the tunic with the scoop neck and now I've made the tunic with the cowl neck which I love!

There are so many things I like about this pattern and I'm thrilled I made the cowl version. The fabric is an ITY from Fabricville. It's really soft and lovely to ...

A New La Bella Donna Tunic from Dizzy Quilts

I was never much a fan of leggings personally - when I wanted to be comfortable, I wore jeans or jogging pants. But with being home so much with minimal activity over the past 9 months or so, my waistline has expanded and I found myself reaching for my leggings more often when getting dressed in the morning. I do need new tops though that will be suitable to wear with leggings and look good on video calls during work days.

And so I made a La Bella Donna tunic from Love Notions in a gorgeous and crazy soft black modal ...

Allegro Pants - Lessons Learned from Dizzy Quilts

I haven't really ventured much into pants sewing (I only tried one pair and although it was somewhat successful, the fit was far from perfect). Pants are hard to fit due to tummies, bums and thighs, but I really want to nail the fit on some comfy pants - I mean, I'll be working from home for the foreseeable future, might as well have some cute comfy pants!

The Allegro Bottoms pattern by Love Notions was completely re-drafted and was on sale a little while ago. It comes with two lengths for shorts and pants as well as two ...

Vivace Dolman from Dizzy Quilts

With the need to work from home for the past 3 months, it feels as though I'm sitting at my computer for 15 hours every day and I move a lot less than I used to. I'm not blaming anything or anyone other than myself for that - I could go for walks or bike rides during the day. I also should have a lot more time to cook healthy meals now that I don't have to commute back and forth to work, but I have found myself feeling lazy at the end of the day so we ...

Rhapsody Blouse in Crinkle Rayon from Dizzy Quilts

The Love Notions Rhapsody blouse has been on my To Do List for about a year now. I even had the pattern printed and traced, but Love Notions re-designed the blouse recently and seeing all the beautiful versions on Instagram just pushed it all the way to the top of the list!

And I couldn't be happier with my new blouse!

I made a size XL based on the finished garment measurements and it fit me without any modifications at all. The pattern is very well written, simple to follow, with lots of step-by-step guidance and pictures. The pattern ...
